Having our first snow of the year! Perfect kind too! On the grass and colder surfaces and NOT on our valley roads. The ski area opened this morning and the mountain tops are white..

What more could you ask for?

2010-11-02 @ 09:41:34
Great news, once again if the weather cooperates as forecasted,
Cataloochee will be one of the earliest ski areas to open, this Saturday Nov 6th.

With a forecast of light snow (up high) and cold nights they plan on starting up, what looks like another great season. They have unbelievable snow making capabilities and have even improved on them for this upcoming year.

I-40 is now completely open!!!

2010-10-22 @ 05:58:33
At 1 PM today ( 10/22/10) I-40 will have all it’s lanes open for the first time in a year between Tennessee and NC in the Gorge. At this time last year we had a major rockslide that effectively cut us off during last years winter from the West.

Let’s hope there will not be anymore this year. Ghost Town’s mud slide is still being repaired.

Fall Season

2010-09-29 @ 10:46:25
It’s hard to believe that tomorrow is the last day of September.
Our projections of a late Fall seem to be right. We are still looking at the 20-31st as peak.

We finally have some normal temps. 70ish and low 50′s at night.
This is my favorite weather.

We have put up our Fall Display and it has been a big hit.
Bring your cameras. It will give you some good photo opportunities.

See you soon,
Jeff

Fall Colors

2010-09-03 @ 12:08:15
Today, The Citizen Times, reported that the “experts” have determined that this Fall’s colors should be much better then last years. (which were pretty good!) They are predicting the peak to be in the third to fourth week of October. It has become more of
the norm over the last several years that the peak has been closer to the 19-30 then the usual 10-20th. Of course no matter when you come the colors move down from the peaks starting in late September. Usually the Blue Ridge Parkway turns gorgeous starting around the last of the Month.
Everyone here is looking forward to seeing you soon!!

Summer almost over

2010-08-14 @ 20:09:56
It’s hard to believe that we’re already halfway through August.
Coming up though are our two favorite months. September and October offer great weather and lot’s of our guests are those that come back every year or several times in a year.

According to those who know…(haha)… the fall should be exceptional this year. Warm weather, and enough rain but not too much is supposed to make brighter colors this year.

Around the 20th of September we’ll decorate for the Fall throughout, the Valley. Of course we’ll try and come up with something unique as well!

Hope to see you soon!

Blog Hurricanes and Labor Day

2010-08-31 @ 11:49:47
We had a couple of calls, so I’d like to clarify..
We are over 400 miles to the NC Coastal area. Our actual closest beaches are in the Charleston, (Southern SC) and Hilton Head areas. We can get to northern Florida quicker then our own Outer Banks.

So.. when they say that NC is in the path of a hurricane, IT DOES
NOT affect our area. Our forecast for Labor Day Weekend is
fantastic. So come on.. cooler temps are on the way too. Hopefully they arrive sooner then later as it will help push the hurricane and TS Fiona, out to sea away from any landfall at all.

Mid Summer in the Mountains

2010-07-15 @ 13:28:29
It’s that time of the year already. We wait all year for the summer to get here and it’s already half over.
It’s been a good summer so far. Fairly dry, although as usual in the mountains there is always a chance of scattered thunderstorms. It’s amazing when you look at the weather channel when you have a 20-30 % chance of a Thunderstorm they will make the whole day look like solid rain on the little emblem they put up. Why they don’t show a Sunny day with a little corner showing rain I will never figure out. You certainly know which side of the half full glass weather folks are trained in.
We’ve had a lot of old friends stay with us this year and it is always good to catch up with them. It’s amazing how many remember our daughter as a toddler. (She’s now 15). The other amazing thing is how many new friends we make here every year.
I never regret leaving the Big Hotel Management atmosphere, and buying the Jonathan Creek Inn. It is so much more rewarding!
Well all of us here at The Jonathan Creek Inn and Villas, wish you a great remaining summer and hope you come visit us soon.
