The Blue Ridge Parkway ranks as the third most visited national park in the country. Starting in Cherokee, North Carolina, and stretching all the way to Virginia, the Parkway is considered one of the most scenic drives in the United States. Winding through the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, it showcases rolling ridgelines, lush forests, and breathtaking overlooks around nearly every curve.
The Parkway offers thousands of “turn-outs” with incredible views, picnic areas, and trailheads that lead to some of the region’s most beloved hikes and waterfalls. The highest point on the Parkway is Richland Balsam Overlook (Milepost 431.4), standing at 6,047 feet above sea level. Other favorite stops include Graveyard Fields, known for its short hikes, panoramic views, and cascading waterfalls; Devil’s Courthouse, offering sweeping mountain vistas; and the Pisgah Inn, where visitors can enjoy incredible dining while overlooking three states.
Wildflowers, wildlife, and vibrant fall colors make every visit unique, and cyclists and photographers alike find endless inspiration along the route.
Please note that sections of the Parkway often close during the winter months due to snow and ice. It’s always a good idea to call ahead or check the National Park Service website for the latest road conditions and closure information before your trip.
